IN THE AREA :
The medieval village of Marti – dating back to at least 1019 - is situated on a hill top, surrounded by rolling countryside and woodland, and within easy reach of the historical cities of Pisa and Florence. The village includes amongst buildings worth visiting the 14th century church of Santa Maria Novella which is home to some important frescos.
Since medieval times this area has produced bricks and there are many ‘ovens’ throughout the territory. Evidence of this can be seen even today in the many medieval buildings present in this region – particularly those built for defense purposes.
Marti offers wonderful views out of the Arno valley and a few shops and cafes whilst the larger Montopoli Val d’Arno is just a short drive away with a wider range of shops and services. Nearest cities: Pisa 40 km, Lucca 40 km, San Gimignano 50 km, Florence 60 km. |
