IN THE AREA :
Monteverdi Marittimo is a small medieval village settled on the southern slopes of the ‘Metallifere’ hills, at a height of 360m. This pretty, peaceful village of just a few hundred inhabitants is surrounded by age-old chestnut trees and has an incredible view over the Maremma Pisana plains. Monteverdi Marittimo has preserved its medieval atmosphere and its characteristic church bell tower is home to a wooden crucifix dating back to the 15th century. Monteverdi Marritimo hosts various festivals throughout the year and the most interesting of these is perhaps the ‘Festa di Sant’Andrea’ which is held on 30 November in honour of the village’s patron saint.
If you tire of the peace and quiet of the countryside, a short drive (35 minutes) will take you to the long beaches of Marina di Donoratico where you can enjoy the sea and sand. Nearest cities: Volterra 50 km, San Gimignano 75 km, Livorno 90 km, Siena 95 km
