IN THE AREA :
Montaione lies on the top of a hill, in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, at 373 mt above sea level and is surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, olive trees, rows of cypresses and woods. It is the perfect base from which to discover this incredible territory being just 50 km from some of the most important, historical cities such as Florence, Siena and Pisa and just 30 minutes drive from San Gimignano and Volterra. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking, riding and bicycling whilst lovers of golf can try out the nearby 18 hole course at Castelfalfi, often cited as the most difficult golf course in Italy.
Montaione was originally the site of Etruscan and Roman settlements.
Today the village, with a population of 3,500 maintains much of its original medieval origins, for example parts of the city walls, fortifications and the urban layout along three main parallel roads. The village also offers all necessary services such as banks, supermarkets, post office and tourist information. Local products, such as olive oil and wine can be tasted in the many restaurants in the village and surrounding areas, directly from the farmers themselves or during the fairs held throughout the year in the historical centre of Montaione.
