The natural beauty of Uccellina Park (Parco dell’Uccellina)
The Maremma Regional Park (Parco Regionale della Maremma), also known as Uccellina Park (Parco dell'Uccellina) is a natural reserve that covers an area of 25 km from the Uccellina hills, across a landscape of marshlands and pinewoods down to the sandy beaches, high cliffs and the crystal blue Tyrrheanian Sea. Established in 1975, the park spreads between the towns of Principina a Mare and Talamone.
Here you will find an extraordinary variety of very different natural environments and ecosystems: from the plains north of the Ombrone river to the dunes and pines on the mouth of the river to the Uccellina mountains in the south and centre. Each environment offers its own variety of fauna and flora and here you can see (and hear!) many different types of wildlife including deer, wild boar, porcupines and the Maremma cattle as well as enjoying the colours and smells of the wild rosemary, broom and oaks typical of the Mediterranean scrub.
Open all year round, the park offers many different itineraries for individuals or groups and caters for all levels. Itineraries can be followed on foot, by bike, on horseback or by canoe.
The Uccellina Park welcomes visitors from all over the world and is the ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Just relax and enjoy the unspoilt beauty of this truly wonderful nature.
